My Journey
It happened on a cold winter evening in early 2011 on the ski slopes.
While trying to round a curve, I hit a patch of ice that sent me flying off the edge to an estimated 200’ fall, my body banging against rocks and trees on the way down.
There I lay, unconscious - in a brief coma - before being found and rushed to the ICU.
Scans revealed that I had broken my skull in seven places and had suffered bleeding on the brain.
But my life was spared.
The severity of my first concussion has made my brain incredibly weak and susceptible to future injury. To date, I've sustained 6 concussions - each with their own physical, emotional, and spiritual challenges. Needless to say, I've become all-too-acquainted with suffering.
I've sought the Lord for healing - and will continue to do so - but have also needed to find a way to navigate the implications of my diagnosis on my daily life and what it means for my walk with the Lord. Many of my discoveries to this end have come through writing spontaneous, free-form poetry in which I pour my heart and laments out before the Lord.
The hope I offer my readers is this: The deep pain I've experienced has been a doorway to some of the sweetest moments in prayer and the real-est encounters with God's love.
May my book - and on a greater scale, my story - invite you to step through this same doorway so that you, too, can find hope, encouragement, and deep soul-level comfort amidst the battles you face.
